Interactive Map developed for NGO–Inclusive Peace & Transition Initiative
The Inclusive Peace & Transition Initiative (IPTI) is a research center specialized in peace processes and provides advice to governments, conflict parties, and civil society groups during peace and political reform negotiations worldwide. Its expertise is based on the in-depth comparative analysis of peace processes since the early 1990s.
It relies on a unique qualitative database of more than 40 case studies of peace and transition processes: the largest database of this kind to date. This database is IPTI’s key comparative advantage, however, it is not publicly accessible. As a result, IPTI wishes to give a visual overview of the cases in its database through a simple interactive map.
New Functionalities Developed
The interactive map developed by Swiss Tomato for IPTI’s website provides a clear overview of over 40 peace and transition case studies, each represented by their country of origin on a world map.
For an increased user friendly experience, visitors can browse through the different case studies with the use of filter functions based on the actors involved, the outcome of the process, the type of process as well as the inclusion modalities.
Once a case study has been selected through the filters or by simply clicking on a point on the map, an overview of the case is presented in a pop up box along with links to relevant publications. With the use of arrows in the pop up, case studies presented on the map can be switched based on a chronological order. Background information about the map can also be viewed in the “About” section.
Interactive Map in Drupal
The map has been designed and developed for IPTI’s existing website programmed in Drupal 7. With its help, researches and those involved in peace processes worldwide, can reach a better understanding of the events of the past and how they were resolved, to ensure a more peaceful future.
