iOS 12 – What are the new key functions?

iOS 12 will be available in autumn to improve your iPhone and iPad experience. To wait until then, here are some of the new key functions.

One important improvement is «Screen Time». This new tool allows you to have activity reports, to define how much time you spend using an app or a website. If you think that you are spending too much time on apps, you can set a time limit for each app. The device will send you a notification when the time limit is reached. Moreover, this new tool is also very useful for parents. Indeed, they can know how much time their children are using their iPhone or iPad and with which apps. Thanks to these information, they can set time limits for the most used apps. They can also set a specific time when an app will be blocked for example : bedtime. Finally, thanks to «Screen Time» parents will be able to define which app their children can use.
Another important improvement is the possibility to call until 32 people in one FaceTime. The new function is called «Groups FaceTime». The person who is speaking will be in front, to follow easily the conversation. You can add people at any time during the FaceTime. You can also add filters and speak using Animoji or Memoji.

Speaking about Animoji, this function which was available on iPhone X will be now available on any types of devices with the add of a new function called Memoji. Thanks to the first app you can be a T.rex, a koala or a tiger…during a moment to send messages or video to your friends. Thanks to Memoji, you can create an avatar that looks like you physically and send video to your friends using it.
With iOS 12, notifications are now grouped. This makes easier the fact of seeing everything rapidly and to select the important notifications. With a new version of Siri, this assistant will be able to suggest you personalized notifications following your interactions with your apps’ notifications. Siri will also be able to make you suggestions, to make easier the things you do every day, for example : order a coffee. Thus, Siri becomes your partner in your daily life.
The last new key functions are the augmented reality and the Measure app. Thanks to ARKit 2, your device can recognize objects, environments… and use these information to create AR experiences which makes the life of the iOS developers easier. You can also share your AR experience with other people. The USDZ file format is used to help 3D creators to create better contents and animations. This format represents a great opportunity for iOS app developers and their creativity. The Measure app will allow you to measure any types of objects or walls around you. You just need to open the Measure app, to point an object with the camera and to draw a line on the object to have the measure. It is really easy.
