Instead of taking out your phone, you could ask for directions, translate a sign, identify an object or get information about what you are looking at. Google has already announced new AI-powered glasses developed with brands including Samsung, Warby Parker and Gentle Monster.

From tapping to talking

Most websites and apps are designed around screens. We tap buttons, scroll through pages and type into search bars. With smart glasses, some of those interactions could be replaced by voice. A tourist might ask for information about a building while standing in front of it, or a technician could view instructions without putting down their tools. At an event, visitors might receive directions or information about exhibitors as they walk around, and there are of course many many more possibilities for their everyday use!

While the possibilities are endless and interesting, not every business needs to rush into creating an app for smart glasses.

A good reason to think ahead

Smart glasses are unlikely to replace smartphones anytime soon. They may however become another way for people to access digital services. For businesses, preparing does not mean investing in futuristic technology today. It simply means building flexible digital platforms, keeping information well structured and thinking beyond the traditional phone or desktop screen. When the way people access information changes, businesses with adaptable websites and apps will have a much easier time keeping up.

At Swiss Tomato, we design digital products with today’s users in mind and tomorrow’s possibilities never too far away, so contact us for a redesign of your digital presence!

mart glasses have been “the next big thing”before, remember Google Glass?
