Developed for Services Industriels de Gen\u00e8ve (SIG), the app rethinks how people experience one of the city\u2019s most recognizable landmarks. The goal was straightforward: allow visitors to see the Jet d\u2019eau even when it physically isn’t available due to poor weather conditions such as strong winds, freezing temperatures or maintenance. This mobile app was so well-received, that it won 2 awards! Not only did it win 3rd prize in the Technology category at Le Meilleur du Web<\/em> but was also shortlisted in the Best of Swiss Apps 2025<\/em> in the Extended Interaction category.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Best of Swiss Apps<\/strong> is a leading Swiss award program that recognizes outstanding mobile and digital applications. It highlights projects that stand out for their quality, usability, technical execution, and relevance, bringing together professionals from across the Swiss digital ecosystem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Best of Swiss Web<\/strong> (also known as Le Meilleur du Web<\/em>) is one of Switzerland\u2019s most established digital awards. It honors excellence in web, technology, and digital communication, rewarding projects that combine solid execution with clear value for users and businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Using augmented reality, the Jet d\u2019eau app lets users point their phone toward the lake and view the Jet d\u2019eau digitally in its real location. This ensures that the experience remains available regardless of conditions. Users can also adjust visual elements such as colors and lighting, adding a personal and interactive layer without complicating the experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In addition to the visual experience, the app provides contextual information and audio content about the history and technical background of the Jet d\u2019eau, helping visitors better understand its role in Geneva\u2019s identity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n From a technical perspective, the focus was on accuracy, performance, and ease of use. The AR content needed to be precisely positioned while remaining accessible across devices. Interaction design was kept intentionally simple to encourage exploration without overwhelming users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Jet d\u2019eau app demonstrates how augmented reality can extend cultural landmarks beyond their physical limitations.
